The Metropolitan Division is one of the three operational divisions of the New England Army. Headquarterd at the Martin Street Barracks in Armidale, the the division is responsible for operation and administration of all Land Command brigades in the counties of Aplseyshire, Greater Armidale, Guyrashire and Urallashire. The division was formed on the 1st July 2023, and fought with great distinction in the Five Day War, with units responsible for the victories at Kootingal, Muswellbrook and Maitland.
The division is currently commanded by Major-General Robert Cousins. The 1st Brigade is led by Brigadier Simon Rush, while the 4th Brigade is commanded by Brigadier Jonathon Lewis. The 8th Brigade is commanded by Brigadier Justin Cullen.
History
Organisation
The Metropolitan Division is organised into three brigades, two active and one in reserve. The active brigades are based in Saumarez and Kentucky, with the reserve brigade headquartered in Armidale. In addition, an inactive reserve brigades, the 12th, is assigned to the defence of the capital which exists only on paper. This additional brigade can be recalled to active duty in the event of a major emergency.
2nd Brigade - The smallest brigade in the army, the 2nd Brigade is a ceremonial outfit based at the Saumarez Barracks in Armidale. In many ways, the 2nd is the face of the army, with shine and polish image and whose units are often seen on ceremonial duties in the capital. Despite this, the brigade has a combat ability as well, and can be called upon to serve in front line action when required.
5th Brigade - The largest brigade in the division, the 5th is based from the Kentucky Barracks between Uralla and Woolbrook. The 5th is charged with the defence of the metropolis from the south and shares patrol duties of the borders along the Macdonald River with the Royal Border Regiment.
8th (Militia) Brigade - Containing the various militia units of the captial, the 8th Brigade is based in Armidale. The brigade conatins one of the oldest extant units win New England, the Armidale Light Horse, whose linage dates back to at least 1897.
