Chief of the Army Staff

Flag of the Chief of the Army Staff The Chief of the Army Staff or CAS is the highest post and professional head of the New England Army. As such, the Chief of the Army Staff is responsible for the overall command of the army, and reports to the Chief of the Defence Force Staff and the Chiefs of Staff Council, of which he is a member along with the other service chiefs. The CAS is not commander-in-chief of the army, which is a position that is held by the King.

The Chief of the Army Staff is the only three-star officer in the New England Army. The position was created in 2012 to replace the position of Commander-in-Chief of the United Militia. The current CAS is Lieutenant General David Emerson-Hill, who has served since 5th May 2048.

Appointments to the position of the CAS are, like the other service chiefs and the Chief of the Defence Force Staff, for a three year term. However, unlike the CDFS, convention allows for the appointment to be renewed for at least an additional three years. The change of command occurs on the first Tuesday in May.
