Lieutenant General David Robert John Emerson-Hill OM MSM (born 29 December 2003) is the ninth and current Chief of the Army Staff, having been appointed on the 5th May 2048. A career solidier, Emerson-Hill began service in the Royal Cavalry Regiment in 2022, where he went on to become CO of the regiment in 2039. Previous to his appointment as army chief, Emerson-Hill was Land Commander from to 2048.

Childhood

David Emerson-Hill was born in Armidale District Hospital, the third and youngest child of John and Robyn Emerson-Hill on the 29th December 2003. Like his father and grandfather David's father was destined for a military career from a young age. His grandfather, Robert, had served with the 2nd AIF in North Africa and New Guinea during the Second World War, where he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal in 1944.

John Emerson-Hill has joined the Australian Army in 1966, where he posted to the 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment. John served in Vietnam from 1968-69. He went on to become a major before retiring in 1994. In 2006, with the outbreak of the Civil War, John Emerson-Hill came out of retirement to assist the militia, serving as a colonel in that force until he was killed in battle during Operation Taipan in 2009.

David and his mother fled New England in 2007, and the children were sent to school in New Zealand. David attended school in Auckland between 2009 and 2012 when the family returned, and David was able go to school in New England. From 2013 until 2016, he attended school at Drummond Primary. In 2017, Emerson-Hill was enrolled at The Armidale School, where he remained until matriculation in 2022.

Early Career

With an excellent result in his ACE, Emerson-Hill was accepted to study at the Royal Military College, Thalgarrah in 2023.
