A timeline of events in the history of New England.

50,000 BCE - The first inhabitants are thought to have arrived on the Australian continent.

1770 - Lieutenant James Cook's expedition in HM Bark Endeavour charts the eastern coast.
1788 - The First Fleet from Britain under Arthur Phillip arrives in Australia and founds first European settlement and penal colony at Sydney.

1818 - John Oxley becomes the first European to explore the New England area
1821 - Port Macquarie is established
1824 - A penal settlement at Moreton Bay (now Brisbane) is established
1839 - George James Macdonald is appointed Commissioner for Crown Lands and establishes a settlement at Armidale

1914 - Outbreak of the Great War
1918 - End of the Great War
1929 - Great Depression
1939 - New England born surgeon Dr Earle Page becomee Prime Minister of Australia for seventeen days after the death of Joe Lyons.
1939 - Outbreak of the Second World War
1945 - End of the Second Word War
1967 - New England statehood proposal is defeated in a referendum

2006 - UDI, beginning the Civil War
2008 - Battle of Walcha
2010 - Fall of Armidale
2011 - The Civil War ends
2012 - First General Election held, with a landslide win by the United Party
2012 - Formal independence granted
2015 - Second General Election leads to the election of the National/Liberal party coalition to government
2016 - New England is admitted to the United Nations and the Commonwealth
2032 - Five Day War. New England forces overwelm a coalition of Australian and American forces and occupy part of Australia
2034 - Occupation of Australian territory ends
2036 - King Micheal dies. He is succeeded by his eldest son James
2045 - King James I dies after a third stroke. He is succeeded by his younger brother Edgar who become King James II
2046 - Crown Prince Alexander is outed as gay in the Australian media
2050 - Crown Prince Alexander marries his partner, Simon Chamberlain
2052 - The SDLP is elected to government in coalition with Progressives after defeating the National/DCP coalition in a General Election.
