New England - Australian Relations

AustraliaAustralia and New England have not enjoyed good relations since the latter became an independent nation in 2012.

Both sides have continued to work toward the resolution of the border dispute along the Macdonald Line. Dialogue between the two nations often mirrors the larger scale diplomacy being waged between Europe and the United States, and so the resolution of grievances has often been hampered by events abroad.

In the sphere of economics, the United States has become the most important part Australia's economy, whereas New England remains under a trade embargo from the United States (which has been unenforced since the sinking of the USS Abraham Lincoln in 2032). The result is that the two nations remain on the opposite side of the world political-economic divide. This in turn means that New England's border with Australia is barely open, with heavy restrictions and travel between the two is difficult and discouraged.
