The Social Democratic Labour Party is, as the name suggests, a moderately left wing social democratic party. The SDLP was formed in 2025 with the merger of the United, Labour and Social Democratic parties.
The party is seen as the natural party of the immigrant New Englanders that arrived during and after the civil war. As a result it has been seldom out of government in those counties where the immigrant population forms the majority. However, in more recent times, this phenomenon has given way as the more left wing Progressive and Alliance parties have attracted young and disaffected immigrant voters.
Policy
The SDLP is a party committed to the reasonable redistribution of wealth and ensuring that no one is left behind as the nation grows and becomes more prosperous. The party tends to oppose the privatisation of government services and has been known to be somewhat interventionist in the economy. The party is against a republic, and is a member of the Monarchist League in the Witan.
The party is socially moderate, and supported initiatives like universal civil unions, euthanasia and drug liberalisation. The party always tries to pursue a policy of friendship with Australia, but it has supported military action in the past (it supported the Five Day War in 2032). The SDLP believes in multilateral diplomacy and membership in international organisations (UN, Commonwealth and the Pacific Union).
