The tenth General Election for the House of Assembly was held on Saturday, 6 March 2044.
Background
In 2040, the Social Demcratic Labour Party had won the general election, and formed a coalition government with the Progressive Party.
Under the provisions set out in the Elections Act 2018, an election must be held on the first Saturday in March, which must be between thirty and forty days after the King has dropped the writ and dissolved the House of Assembly. In 2044, the King had been incapcitated for almost a year, and was not able to perform his normal constitutional functions as head of state. In this case, the Chancellor, Antonia Davidson, was responsible for calling the election, which she did on Monday, 30th January, 2044.
