| Order: | Fifth |
| Sitting Dates: | 8 - 9 December 2045 |
| Chancellor: | Sir John Tudor |
| Members: | 213 |
| Purpose: | Election of Monarch |
The Witan of 2045 met between the 8 - 9 December, and was the most recent sitting of this body to date. The Witan was charged with the responsibility of electing a new Monarch after the death of King James I on the 7 December. The sitting was called to Armidale by the traditional means of the tolling of the National Bell Tower after the announcement of the King's death at 0315 NET on the 7 December.
Additionally, the Witan was charged with the bestowal of the title of Crown Prince and Duchy of Duval, and finally on it's last sitting day, the Witan was charged with the setting the new Privy Budget.
The body chose HRH Prince Edgar as the Monarch and his son HRH Prince Alexander as Crown Prince and Duke of Duval. Prince Edgar was elected Monarch 217 votes for to 8 votes against, whilst Prince Alexander was elected as Crown Prince 210 votes for to 15 votes against. The Witan did not get a unanimous vote on either issue owing the republican Progressive and Independent members voting against the election of a Monarch. Prince Alexander's election was opposed by a number of Christian members who took issue with the prince's alleged homosexuality. The accusations were unconfirmed at the time, but after an investigation by an Australian tabloid magazine in 2046, the Crown Prince was later outed.
The setting of the Privy Budget was also set on the 9 December. After several hours of debate, the Witan set the budget at C14.5 million a year. For the King and the other active members of the Royal House to carry out official business excluding travel costs.
