The Witan of 2037 met between the 6 - 18 May, and was the third such sitting of this body to date. The Witan was charged with the responsibility of amending the constitution to reflect changes to New England in the generation since the first changes were made in 2021.
The Witan sat for twelve days and debated the various proposals to amend the constitution. Ideas put forward to the Witan included:
- The reaffirmation of the territorial claims agreed by the Treaty of Wellington [Carried]
- The inclusion of two members of the New England National University convocation on the Witan [Carried]
- The abolition of the Counties [Failed]
- The abolition of the Monarchy [Failed]
- The creation of a permanent Legislative Council to serve as an upper house for the Kingdom [Failed]
Of all these proposals, only the first two were taken to a referendum, which was held on Saturday, 3rd March 2040. Both of the proposals were carried and became part of the constitution one week after the return of the writs.
