The Duchy, along with the Duchy of Duval, was created in 2014 as a means of paying for the upkeep of the royal family and the various public tasks they perform.
The title is granted to the Monarch by the Witan when it proclaims a new monarch. The current Duke of Chandler is HM King James II. Although the Monarch does not use the title, the title is used by their spouse as an alternative courtesy title to Prince or Princess Consort.
