Rodney Michael Innes KC KM MS EC (born 27th May, 1994) is the fourth and current Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New England. Appointed in 2045, Justice Innes previously served as a Chief Judge of the Crown Court before his appointment to the Supreme Court.

Justice Innes is well known for his articulate opinions, often drawing on findings from a variety of sources. Over the first years of his appointment to the court, Justice Innes has shown a strong willingness to join the opinions of others, and will not led unless the court is strongly divided. This in turn has made Innes a well respected figure in the court and a champion of consensus rulings over simple majority findings.

Early Life

Rodney Michael Innes was born in Lismore on the 27th May 1994, the only child to Leo and Norma Innes. Rodney's father was a solicitor in Casino, while his mother was a housewife, having left a job as a teacher in 1992 to start a family. Complications from Rodney's birth prevented Norma conceiving again, and there were no further children in the family.

Despite this, the young Rodney grew up in an a loving family with a strong academic background and beliefs. By the age of ten, Innes was fluent (for his age) in Latin and French and had shown a strong memory and attention to detail that would serve him well in adulthood. In 1999, the Innes family moved to Tenterfield, and it was here that Rodney first attended school, being sent to Tenterfield Primary in the same and then later he attended The Armidale School from 2006 to 2007, when Civil War violence forced the school to close. From 2008 until 2011, Innes completed his studies at Sydney Grammar School.

Innes was accepted to study at the University of Sydney in 2012, but a desire to return home and study in his own country led to Innes enrolling at the New England National University. He completed a Bachelor of Arts/LLB over five years before going onto a further year of honours in 2017. Final studies were completed in 2018 and in 2019 Innes became a legal clerk with the firm Jenkins, Ross and Paterson in Armidale.
