The New England Rail Authority or NERA is the agency of the New England government charged with the delivery of rail services. NERA is responsible for the provision of national passenger and freight services, rail infrastructure management and administrative support to it's subsidiaries.

New England Rail was established in 2014 to replace the Rail Corporation of New South Wales and it's associated entities.

Much of the rail network is electrified and with electric trains using 25 kV AC overhead electrification, while the five surviving diesel locomotives are. The entire network travels on 1435mm standard gauge tracks.
