The Right Honourable Yvonne Helen Emily Gates (née O'Neill) , 2nd Earl of Guyrashire KNE HMCS EC (26 March 1983 - ), was First Minister of New England from August 2024 until December 2026 and is the one of only two First Ministers to not have faced an election.
Gate's time in office was brief, and her government was brought down by the Banks Scandal in later 2026 when the Democratic Conservatives crossed the floor on a motion of no confidence, forcing Gates to resign.

Early Life
Yvonne Helen Emily O'Neill was born in Sydney, Australia on the 26 March 1983. She was the youngest daughter of Roger and Susanne O'Neill. Her father was an insurance assessor with NRMA and her mother was a stay at home parent responsible for bringing up six children. Born into the middle class surrounds of Sutherland, the O'Neill's moved to Sawtell in 1986 just after Yvonne's sixth birthday.
As a child, Yvonne attended Sawtell Primary School from 1988 until 1995 and then Orara High from 1996 until 2001. After a gap year, Gates was enrolled at Southern Cross University in Lismore where she studied Marine Biology.
After graduating from university in 2005, O'Neill moved to Cairns, where she was employed by Cairns City Council to study marine stocks along the foreshore of the city. It as there she met her future husband, Owen Gates. The two were married in 2011.
