The Port Rail or PR is a subsidury agency of New England Rail responsible for the provision of rail services to the city of Port Macquarie and greater Hastings and Macleay region. On most days, the network moves over 500,000 people a day. The commission is run as a shared entity by the counties of Macquarie and Macleay, although a significant portion of the funding and all staff belong to the New England Rail Authority.
The network itself is much smaller than the rail networks of Armidale and Coffs Harbour, but still manages to cover the cities of Port Macquarie, Kempsey, Wauchope and Laurieton. The system is modern and clean, with reliable services running twenty-four hours a day across all lines on the network.
The system is set up as a hybrid system a metro-style underground railway system and a suburban commuter rail system. All the lines on the network are made up of both of these types. The network is divided into seven separate lines, as listed right.
