The City of Uralla is both the second largest city in New England and the Greater Armidale conurbation. As of June 2052, Uralla had over 216,000 inhabitants. The city is administered as part of Urallashire.
Originally a mining town, Uralla has long been home to New England's small manufacturing sector and also contains many of the market gardens supplying a variety of herbs and vegetables. Uralla is also the most ethically diverse of all of Greater Armidale, with significant populations of African and Asian New Englanders.
Area
Uralla lies directly to the west of the cities of Armidale, Dangarsleigh and Dumaresq. Dangarsleigh covers only a small geographical area, and is located to the south east of Armidale.
In terms of the boundaries of the city, Uralla is bound into an area roughly outlined by the A1 Trunk Road to the north, Saumarez Creek to the east, Salisbury Waters to the south and the Yarrowyck Range to the west.
Geography & Climate
Uralla is situated on and to the west of the Great Dividing Range. The cities elevation and climate is the same as Armidale, and most of the Greater Armidale conurbation, with mild summers and cool winters.
The city be reached by a number of means, with two motorways crossing the city. Uralla is also integrated into the Greater Armidale suburban rail service, which is the core means of public transport in the city. The city is also close to Armidale Airport.
Culture
Uralla was founded as a mining town, and to this day maintains a strong working-class ethic. The biggest local event is the annual Thunderbolt Festival, which celebrates the pioneer heritage of the city, and commemorates the death of Frederick 'Thunderbolt' Ward, a local bushranger from the nineteenth century.
In most other scenes, Uralla is part of the cultural life of Greater Armidale, and often hosts events as part of the metropolitan wide festivals held every year.
