The city of Laurieton is the smallest and newest of New England's fourteen cities, having been chartered in February 2050. As of June 2052, Laurieton had 52,335 inhabitants. The city is administered as part of the county of Macquarie.
The majority of the city remains undeveloped and is preserved in a number of Nature Reserves. The urban areas of the city cling to a small area around the mouth of Queens Lake, and unlike a lot of other cities in New England, Laurieton is not a single urban mass, but rather is a series of communities separated by lakes, esturine swamps and dunes.
History
Structure
Demographics - The population of Laurietoin stands at just over 52,000 people (as of June 2050). The city is part of a greater urban area of 370,000 people. Despite this, Laurieton's population growth has remained low, as there is little land available for large scale suburban development of the city. The urban areas are possibly the most densly populated in New England, with very few people living in free standing dwellings around the centre of the city.
Economy - The economy of Laurieton is built on seasonal tourism, when thousands of New Englanders spend their summer holidays by the sea. Over summer, Laurieton's population doubles, with 50,000 people coming into the city.
Government - Laurieton is one of the constituent centres of the Greater Port Macquarie conurbation, which also includes Port Macquarie, Telegraph Point and Wauchope.
Laurieton is subdivided into five boroughs or the administration of the city and the county as a whole.
Transport - Laurieton is built near the interchange of the M2 and A2, which meet near Kendall.
Geography & Climate
Geography - Laurieton is located in the south-east of New England (31°39'S 152°47'E), forty kilometres south of Port Macquarie. Unlike the rest of New England's cities, Laurieton's urban area is not contiguous and is spread over a large geographic area. The boundaries of the city are defined into an area roughly outlined by the Lake Innes Nature Reserve to the north, the Pacific Ocean to the east, the Australian Border to the south and the Broken Bago Range to the west.
Laurieton is smallest chartered city in New England, and achieved it's city status in February 2050. The city is divided into the boroughs of Camden Haven, Herons Creek, Lake Cathie, Lorne and Kendall.
Climate - Like the rest of south-east New England, Laurieton enjoys a temperate climate with mild temperatures the entire year. The majority of city is built around several esturine rivers and lakes and is therefore on land with an elevation of ten metres or less.
