The City of Kempsey is the largest urban centre and county town of the county of Macleay. The city is located about fifteen kilometres inland from the coast of the Pacific Ocean where State Highway 2 and the Eastern Main Railway Line cross the Macleay River. It is roughly 180 kilometres east of Armidale.
