The city of Dumaresq is a city in the north-west of the Greater Armidale conurbation. Located twelve kilometres from Armidale, Dumaresq was established as a rural hamlet and railhead in the nineteenth century, but in later years it has become a satellite suburb of Armidale.

Dumaresq is the seventh largest city in New England. As of June 2052, Dumaresq had just over 110,000 inhabitants. Originally the city was managed as part of Urallashire and Dumaresqshire, but as part of the restructure of urban administration, the city has been administered as part of the Greater Armidale City Council since 2036.

Area

Dumaresq is the fourth largest city in Greater Armidale, and covers a slightly smaller area and is located to the north-west of Armidale. In terms of the boundaries of the city, Dumaresq is bound into an area roughly outlined by the Duval Range to the north, Saumarez Creek to the east, the M4 Motorway to the south and the Great Dividing Range to the west.

Geography & Climate

Dumaresq sits on top of the Great Dividing Range, and features a number of the small mountains that mark the range in the Greater Armidale region. These include Mt Redman and Mt Mitchell.

The mild climate of Dumaresq is the same as Armidale, with pleasant warm summers, extended spring and autumn seasons, and a short cold winter.

Dumaresq can be reached by a number of means, with the M4 motorway crossing through the bottom of the city. Dumaresq is also linked by the A1 trunk road. The city is serviced by the Greater Armidale suburban rail service, which is the core form of public transport in the city. Domestic and international aviation services are provided from Armidale-Gostwyck Airport south of the city.
