The city of Dangarsleigh is the smallest city in the Greater Armidale conurbation. As of June 2052, Dangarsleigh had 97,881 inhabitants. The city is administered as part of the Greater Armidale County Council.
The city is made up of almost all low density housing, and is considered the best city to live in New England by a number of social research groups. The city has become a favourite for families escaping the higher density housing of the other parts of Greater Armidale.
Despite this, many younger people continue to see the city as rather boorish, especially when compared to the diversity that can be found in Armidale. The city is often referred to as Daggishleigh in popular conversation.
Area
Dangarsleigh covers only a small geographical area, and is located to the south east of Armidale. In terms of the boundaries of the city, Dangarsleigh is bound into an area roughly outlined by the A1 Trunk Road to the north, the Gara River to the east, and Saumarez Creek to the south and west.
Geography & Climate
Dangarsleigh is situated to the east of the Great Dividing Range. The city is located between divide and the upper reaches of the Oxley Gorges, which plunge some hundreds of metres right on the edge of the city.
The area contains a number of areas of outstanding natural beauty and scientific interest, and there are World Heritage national parks in the gorges that make up the southern boundary of the city.
Dangarsleigh's elevation os slightly lower than Armidale, and averages about 1,000 metres. This elevation gives the city a mild climate, with pleasant warm summers, extended spring and autumn seasons, and a short cold winter. In most aspects, the climate is almost identical to that of Armidale.
The city be reached by the A16, which runs through the middle of the city. The A15 and A17 also run through the city, to the east and west respectively. Dangarsleigh is also serviced by the Dangarsleigh Line of the Armidale suburban rail service.
Dangarsleigh is divided into four boroughs, which are in turn divided into a number of suburbs. The boroughs are Castledoyle, Kingsland, North Dangarsleigh and South Dangarsleigh.
Culture
In most cultural pursuits, Dangarsleigh is considered to be part of Greater Armidale. The city does have some unique cultural events, including the Gorge Festival, which is a celebration of the natural beauty of the city and held every September. Dangarsleigh is also home to the Settlers Fair, an event that celebrates the pioneer heritage of the Greater Armidale region.
The city has a number of sporting teams that compete in county and national level events.
