Apsleyshire is medium sized county located sixty kilometres to the south-east of Armidale. The county is named after the Apsley River, which flows through the town of Walcha, which is the largest town and county town of the county.

Area & Population
Apsleyshire is the forth largest county by area, ranking behind Clarence, Macintyre and Gwydir. The county is divided into the Districts of Jeogla, Salisbury and Yarrowitch and the Towns of Walcha, Williamstown and Woolbrook.
Despite it's size, most of the county is wilderness and is uninhabited. The three towns of the county, Walcha, Williamstown and Woolbrook have populations of 32,000, 7,800 and 21,000 respectively. The largest district is Salisbury, with 4,500 residents.
Politics
Apsleyshire is one of three counties currently controlled by the Social Democratic Labour Party. Historically, the county has been a stronghold of the party, but in recent years, that position has been challenged by the Progressives.
Apsleyshire is also the birthplace of the current First Minister, Matthew Jones. Jones served as Earl of Apsleyshire between 2035 and 2040.
