Mount Duval is a small forested mountain located fifteen kilometres north Armidale. The mountain is one of the largest in the area, and is a dominating feature of the city skyline. The mountain was named after John Duval, a convict and servant of a local pastoralist who worked in the area around the mountain in the 1830s. Today, most of the mountain is contained within the Duval Nature Reserve.
Fromn 2000 until 2012, Mount Duval featured on the logo of the Armidale-Dumaresq Council. Duval College at the New England National University is also named after the mountain, and features a stylised version of the mountain on it's shield.
To the north-west of Mt Duval sits Little Mount Duval, which at 1404m is actually slightly higher. When viewed from Armidale, Little Mount Duval appears much smaller and was so named accordingly. On the summit of Little Mount Duval sit the transmission relay towers for a number of radio and television stations that broadcast into Armidale.
