The NEUFS is responsible for protection of all property against fire and hazardous substance incidents in all cities and towns. The NEUFS was established in 2012 out of the New South Wales Fire Brigades. Regulation for the firce service is provided by the Fire Services Act 2012.

Brigades

The NEUFS is responsible for fire and hazardous substance incidents in New England's urban areas. Outside of these areas, incidents are managed by the Civil Defence Service through the Rural Fire Division.

Each city or town has it's own Brigade, which in the larger centres are divided into stations. Each Brigade is managed through the nation-wide Fire Service from four regional offices and the national head office in Armidale.
