Civil Defence Service
The Civil Defence Service or CDS is an agency of the Ministry of Home Affairs that acts as the civilan emergency services body of New England. The CDS is charged with the protection of New England's civilan population against natural disasters and military attack. The CDS is also charged with the containment of bushfires in non-metropolitian areas. The service consists of about 12,000 personel, almost all of whom are volunteers.
The CDS was established in 2014 with the amagamation of the State Emergency and the Rural Fire Services. Today, the CDS provides almost all land based rescue and response services. Martime rescue services are provided by the Martime Rescue Service, while the Air Rescue Unit of the Royal New England Constabulary provides all airbourne rescue operations. Despite this, the CDS is still left with a large amount of work on a day to day basis, and it remains an essential element of New England's public safety system.
Organisation
There are three major branches of the CDS, each being responsible for a spefic area of emergency operations. All are branded as one as part of the Civil Defence Service, and are by and large unknown to the general public. In the event of the CDS being called in an emergency, the service will despatch the individual authority it judges to the best for that particular emergency. In large scale incidents, multipe authorties may be sent as a 'task force'.
Air Raid Precautions Authority - In order to protect the civiliam poulation from aerial attack, the Air Raid Precautions Authority or ARPA was established in 2030. In the event of an aerial assualt, there is only four minutes warning before enemy planes are over New England.
