James Ferguson (born 17 November 2009) is solo rock and folk musician from Grafton. Ferguson first came to fame as part of the band Clear in 2032. He later embarked on a solo career and best known for the hit singles Country Girls and On My Own Terms.

Today, Ferguson is one of New England's better known artists, and in recent years, he has been particularly popular with people over forty. Despite this, Ferguson has collaborated with younger artists including Sammy Michelle and Charlie Henry to release singles that have proved very popular.

Background

Ferguson was born into a farming family at Copmanhurst, near Grafton, in 2009. It wasn't until Grammar School that Ferguson first used a musical instrument of any kind, and it took him many years of practice to master the guitar. James' principal talent however, was his voice, and his ability to sing and write lyrics made him popular with other budding musicians at school and at Fitzroyshire Polytechnic. His first band, Ratchet, enjoyed little success outside the public bars of Grafton and broke up after two years.

After finishing school, Ferguson attempting one year of a three year diploma of teaching before deciding to become a full-time musician. Ferguson's next band, Michaelmas, was formed in 2032. Again, this band was not a high commercial success, but it did allow Fergusson to fine-tune his voice and guitar skills, and many later fans have purchased these early recordings to chart the growth of their favourite singer,

In 2039, Michaelmas broke up, and Ferguson began his solo career. His first album, Nobody's Hero, was not a success, and peaked at #61 in the album charts. The second album, The River, rocketed to #1 within days of going on sale, with hit singles Simple Love and Country Girls being standout tunes. The third album, Kaiser Stuhl, struggled, with one single making it into the top fifty.

After a break of four years, Ferguson returned to record Rocket. The album was an instant success and with two #1 singles and one of the most successful tours of Australia and New Zealand ever made by a New England recording artist. Underwood was Ferguson's most recent album, and it two enjoyed some moderate success. In recent years, Ferguson has collaborated with other popular artists like Sammy Michelle and Charlie Henry to record #1 singles such as Dance Away, which went to the top of the New England charts earlier this year.
